Dragonboat Awesomeness

The weekend was amazing! It was great to see everyone again and there was definitely lots of bonding. It was raining almost all of the time but there was a little bit of sunshine Sunday morning and we took advantage of that and went to the beach!
Laura's house was amazing! She lived as she quotes "exactly 1 km" from the beach. The beach was amazing. There were a lot of dead fish everywhere and there was only a little bit of "free" beach but the people made it fun. The water was really shallow and I went preetty far back until I had to stand on my tippy toes.
We went through an entire tank of propane over two days and we resulted in using the giant firepit. We definitely understimated the open flame and we charred a lot of the burgers we had. It was still fun....I tried some of those marshmellows with Bailey's in it, it tasted pretty damn good. A lot of people wanted to try it.
I got to Laura's Friday night and I barely remember it. I just know I bonded a lot with two other girls and we passed out together (awwww!!). Lots of pictures to piece together the happenings of Friday night. Saturday was pretty rainy but we went to the beach anyways and watched the awesome video courtesy of Mike Sun. Great video Mike!! Hopefully it'll be on youtube soon so I can show all of you guys what an hilarious video it is (was?).
By Sunday, most of the team had left already either in the morning or the night before but we went on with the daily activites anyways. It was sunny so we went to the beach (I got a little bit burnt...a little bit closer to Kyle's tan-ness) and we handed out awards chosen by the execs. I got the award for Most Dedicated Paddler. Not sure how that came to be...probably because I brought all the food.
Laura was fabulous for letting so many people stay over and literally camp in her backyard. So many memories...I hope we have another get together before school starts. Laura might even be living with Matt and I next year...and she's bringing her dog!!! Yay! Maddox is SO well behaved, its unbelievable.

Ahh...Not even there for 10 minutes and I already have a drink in my hand...

Ahh...bonding!!

A piglet that lived across the street from Laura's house...it's so cute! His name is CB...which stands for Canadian Bacon!

Beach!! I sneaked into the picture last minute!

Feet!! One of the last pictures taken before we all departed!
On another note...I'm going to visit Kyle next Wednesday! I CAN'T WAIT!!

Time for an Update

Hey everybody!

There are bigger gaps now between my posts because it just takes such a long time before there are enough interesting things to happen to me for me to post!

Last week, I went to Kensington Market with Ivan (who still looks the same) and I bought myself two belts (two for one sale) , two books, and also something for Kyle when I go up to meet him. Before we hit up Kensington, we went to the Salad King near the HMV and it was quite an experience. For all of their dishes, you can choose the spicy-ness on a scale from 0 chilis to 20 chilis. The description for 20 chilis was: May cause upset stomach. From the looks of things, I decided to go with 2 chilis and my goodness was it spicy!!! I should've just been a wimp and went for 0 chilis like my sister and have enjoyed my meal fully instead of enjoying the first moment of each bite and then having the feeling of eating fire. Who in their right mind would ever go for 20 chilis? I bet you that whoever would would have to have little to no feeling in their tastebuds.
After that, we had some ice cream which helped to cool us off and then we head off to Kensington Market. The stores there have gotten a lot more high tech since the last time I went there (two years ago?). Most of the stores had debit machines so i didn't have to panic that I only had a twenty dollar bill.

Went out for sushi with my coworkers from M&Ms (Andrew and Lu) and I had the biggest meal. Bigger than Andrew's (who is one of those food shovelling machine guys) meal! We went to a place called Oshi which is on Steeles and a little bit further and across the street from Pacific Mall. I seriously wished we went further back into the parking lot and went to Wasabi instead because it's all-you-can-eat sushi for just a couple of dollers more. It was really nice to eat something that wasn't heated up like all of the M&M stuff (which tastes quite delicious by the way).

This weekend, the Mac dragonboat team is having their end of the year party and I couldn't be more excited. I haven't seen the whole team for almost a month now and I think we're going to have a killer time. Since I'm working at an M&Ms and we're having a big potluck/bbq, I've decided to somewhat spear-head a little group to get most of the food for the bbq. I just hope that there is enough food because more and more people want to chip in with money meaning less and less people are bringing food! I don't think I bought enough food for 20 people :S. Ahh!!
We'll see how it goes...

Work has been fun. More and more idiotic people come in and slowly the thought of the store transferring owners is setting in. It feels weirder to eat M&M food for lunch because head office people are there and they're all "I'm going to go buy food across the street" or "I'm going to Timmy's for lunch". Makes me feel kindof guilty that I'm having a free lunch. The new owners have never owned an M&Ms before and I'm pretty certain that they're going to be very by-the-book and not let any of the product consultants have any fun or freedom. I just hope they're not the kind of franchisees who think that the product consultants are underneath them and don't deserve the same amount of respect. I know a lot of people who are like that with people who assist them and I think it's the shittiest thing someone could do to you in the workplace (other than actually firing you).

That's it for now! I'm so excited! I'm going to go up to visit Kyle in 2 weeks! (The last time I saw him was June 21st!! )

Freezing!

The great thing about working in a store devoted to freezing food is that I actually complain about being cold when the weather forecasts temperatures around the 29 degrees celcius area. The bad thing about working at M&Ms is that people come in, stand over the cooler, blatantly not planning to buy anything and just leave.
Today business was alright until an hour before my shift is over. People usually come in spurts and this spurt was HUGE! We were trying to help about 5 customers between the two of us and one of them wanted to buy 8 boxes of burgers and after I cut open the tape of the cardboard box to show her what it looked like, she MADE me tape it back up before she took it. I kept saying, "It doesn't matter, it's frozen anyways." And she kept making this obviously stupid argument that she wasn't going to eat it for a while so she wanted it to be taped back up. IT'S FROZEN! It's not going to go anywhere as long as you stick it in a freezer! I got so pissed off that when I went to go pick up some more boxes from the giant walk in freezer, I bumped by head really hard on the shelf so not only was this customer pissing me off, I had a killer headache.
After that customer, this other customer came in and I could tell that she was one of those jerk customers who think they're better than everyone else. She could obviously see that that first customer I was helping was paying so she had to wait in line. The other guy working at the time was doing the cash for the tape-lady and when I gave the jerk-lady her box of potatoes, I went off to go help another customer. The jerk-lady starts bitching to the other guy about how I was helping her and then I went off to help someone else. The tape-lady had like 9 boxes of stuff so the line was getting a little backed up and the jerk-lady was just cussing off to how we weren't helping her. How could I have helped her more?! I gave her her stupid potatoes and now she has to wait in line, there's nothing more to it.
After both of those fabulous customers left, Andrew (the guy working) told me that the jerk-lady always demands to be treated better than everyone else and that he hoped to one day tell her to f*ck off. I don't know people can survive working at retail for more than a summer time. There are so many horrible people out there that I just want to bitchslap all of them.
Here's the dogma of M&Ms:
1) You come in, we say "Hi!"
2) You ask for the food and we get it from the freezer for you
3) We show you the food and you say, "that's great!"
4) You pay for it and we say, "Have a nice day!"
It's so simple! I don't know why people have to make it so hard! I've heard stories about how customers have tried to go behind the counter to take out the food themselves so they can see it. The counter is there for a reason nitwits.
This reminds me of this other customer who was in such a hurry that she literally reached over the counter and tried to rip the receipt herself from the moneris machine. Earlier, she also tried opening the box herself but to no avail since it was securely taped and needed a box cutter to open it. I even told her to wait a couple of seconds while I took out my box cutter. Ugh!!
Have you noticed how all these bad customers are women?! I don't want to send women back like 50 years but seriously! Women seem to be the sex that bitches more about the smallest things.
